Factory Direct: Pittsburgh showcases the artwork of 14 established contemporary artists invited to conduct artist residencies in Pittsburgh-based factories. Factory Direct artists will work closely with the management teams and factory workers within their host facilities to plan and execute a new work of art based on the factory’s history, technologies, materials, and/or processes.

The sixteenth installment in the Gestures series, Gestures: Intimate Friction, will bring together artists, architects, and activists to work together in the Mattress Factory’s annex gallery, 1414 Monterey. The upcoming exhibition will be guest-curated by Mary-Lou Arscott, of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture.

Internationally known glass artists present slides and informal discussions about studio glass art on most Wednesdays, May 23 through August 8. As the lecturers are confirmed, they will be posted online.

This exhibit features a showcase of more than 60 guitars, ranging from the rare to wildly popular. It includes interactives about the science of sound as well as photography, performance videos, audio, touch screens and the World’s Largest Playable Guitar, certified by Guinness World Records. Plus, live performances by musicians of local, regional, and national note will be scheduled throughout the run of the exhibit.

The Warhol celebrates Andy Warhol’s work in film and video with the inauguration of a long-term exhibition showcasing the largest installation of his media works. More than 75 Race and show cars thunder through Downtown Pittsburgh on their way to displays at the U.S. Steel Plaza, PPG Plaza and Market Square.
