Tough Art

An exhibition of four, original, interactive artworks that are “tough” enough to withstand kid handling. Play with a giant kaleidoscope, activate a sculpture with your voice and more! This exhibit is supported by a grant from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Sciences.

In a magical forest, Casey Smith hires teenager Brian to help him dig for gold. Once Brian meets the fairies in the forest, however, he thinks that maybe the gold rightfully belongs with them. With a buried treasure in sight, we meet the Greedy Bogle, as well as spriggins, fairies and Lara, queen of Hollow Hill. It’s an enchanting adventure that asks the audience to consider the difference between doing what’s right and doing what’s greedy.

Carnegie Mellon’s Arts Greenhouse program cultivates the artistic talent of Pittsburgh teens through positive and critical engagement with hip-hop. Every Saturday, the Arts Greenhouse brings a dozen or more teens to campus to create their own music. Participants record in a professional studio on campus, releasing a new album of music every May.
