Nearly 20 American artists spanning the Hudson River School to American Impressionism are represented in these small-scale paintings from the superb collection of the Newark Museum. Beginning with the Hudson River School in the 1820s, landscapes served as a vehicle for expressing national identity and pride in the wonders of the land. Artists such as Albert Bierstadt (1830–1902), Asher B. Durand (1796–1886), and Jasper Cropsey (1823–1900) were intent on creating distinctly American scenes. Later, during the Civil War and in the years following, this ardent nationalism waned as French landscape painting and the Barbizon school influenced a younger generation of painters including George Inness (1825–1894), John Pope (1820–1881) and Mary Moran (1842–1899). By the 1890s, Impressionism, with its broken brushstrokes and brilliant hues, became the avant-garde style in America. Together, these small-but-sublime canvases provide an overview of the approaches to landscape painting in the second half of the 19th century and illustrate shifts in broader social attitudes toward nature and American identity. This exhibition is organized by the Newark Museum.

This exhibition presents the ground-breaking work of two masters of 20th-century art. Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) and Andy Warhol (1928-1987) are among the most important and influential artists of the 20th century, and they continue to inspire and influence contemporary artists today. Notorious early in their careers and iconoclastic in their eras, both artists are now important touchstones of modern art history. While many have written about their artistic kinship, this exhibition — which pairs dozens of their works and takes advantage of Warhol’s personal papers — is the first to thoroughly explore Warhol’s great interest in and indebtedness to Duchamp. This exhibition is curated by Matt Wrbican, Archivist, The Andy Warhol Museum. The Warhol thanks these generous lenders to the exhibition: Moderna Museet, Francis Naumann Fine Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, The Richard and Emily Sandor Family Collection, Carroll Janis, High Museum of Art, Marion Meyer Contemporain, National Gallery of Art, Andrew L. Terner, Inc., and Jay Reeg.

Thinking of moving to Pittsburgh? Take advantage of the Friendship neighborhood’s free guided walking tour sponsored by the Friendship Preservation Group - email communications@friendship-pgh.org - for information. In the book the Green Metropolis: Why Living Smaller, Living Closer, and Driving Less are the Keys to Sustainability author David Owen details why living in the city is inherently more green than the suburbs. It’s easy to bring this point home from the porch of one of the Glass Lofts, our newest neighbors, where restaurants, coffee shops, health clubs, food stores, art galleries and theaters are all within walking distance. Off the bat, these new homes are nearly twice as efficient as single family homes - shared walls and some common space helps account for a big part of that. There’s more: a one year Zip Car membership comes with the purchase of a loft and the city’s public transit system is investigating a rapid bus to downtown along this corridor. Green living is not the only reason to choose the Glass Lofts. Perhaps, the most important attraction, as those living in Friendship already know, is that it not only has all the necessities close- by, but that it is just a comfortable place to live. “Even though Penn Avenue is a major artery, the mix of residential and commercial as well as thoughtful additions of new trees and outdoor seating at some of the eateries gives it a real neighborhood feel. We couldn’t imagine living anywhere else!” says Penn Avenue resident and Glass

In Pinter's No Man's Land, do Hirst, a wealthy recluse haunted by dreams and memories, and Spooner, a down-at-heels poet, really know each other, or are they performing an elaborate charade? The ambiguity - and the comedy - intensify with the arrival of Hirst's manservants Briggs and Foster, who may be lovers. All four inhabit a no-man's-land between time present and time remembered, between reality and imagination.

Lebanon Presbyterian Church invites you to join us for our Contemporary PRAISE! worship service on Sunday evenings at 6 PM. This upbeat service is designed to appeal to those who may not be available to come to church Sunday mornings and who might enjoy a Christ-centered worship service featuring contemporary Christian music, drama, video, and testimonies. The Sunday night PRAISE! service is a great way to become acquainted with LPC. The sermon message is different from the morning service so that those who wish to attend both services are not subjected to a repeat sermon. The service is designed to be more of a relaxed worship atmosphere where folks can dress casually. Our worship band performs live contemporary Christian music throughout the service. The lyrics to the songs are displayed on two large projector screens at the front of the sanctuary which allows the congregation to actively participate in worship if they so choose. If you want to hear what this service sounds like, feel free to visit the media area of our website at http://www.lebanonpc.org/media.html to listen to the worship music or sermons. We invite you to check out this worship service each Sunday evening at 6 PM. And, if you have a talent such as the ability to play a musical instrument, sing or act, you are more than welcome to be a part of the service and use that talent to worship the Lord!!! Free snacks are available in the lobby after the service where attendees can meet and mingle. Also, our senior youth ministry meets on Sunday evenings at 7 PM, making it convenient for them to attend the PRAISE! service before heading downstairs to youth group. We hope to see you soon on Sunday nights. ALL ARE WELCOME!!! Visit our website http://www.lebanonpc.org for more information regarding our ministries. We are located across from the Allegheny County Airport, next to Dean Honda and minutes from Century III Mall. Our address is: Lebanon Presbyterian Church 2800 Old Elizabeth Road West Mifflin, PA 15122 Our facility is wheelchair accessible. Parking is free, and we are within close proximity of public transportation (PAT transit).

The reinstallation includes a prominent display of Carnegie Museum of Art’s important collections of Western Pennsylvania furniture and contemporary objects made from glass and aluminum—two materials deeply associated with the region. Objects will be arranged chronologically, reflecting the strength of the collection from the 18th century to the present. The cross-continental installation will shed light on the development of style and design, from Rococo and Neoclassicism of the 18th century, to Revivalism and the Aesthetic and Arts & Crafts movements of the 19th century, to Modernism and contemporary design and craft of the 20th and 21st centuries.
