Pittsburgh IS Art!

Welcome to Pittsburgh, with pop culture at every turn and the place for art lovers everywhere. The Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh Glass Center and The Frick Art & Historical Center are just a handful of places to discover art from many different eras. Take a trip to the Countryside and explore the American Experience at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art—the only museum of American Art in Western Pennsylvania!

Carnegie Museum of Art presents Japan is the Key...through July 21. The exhibition features over 50 rarely-seen Japanese prints including traditional masterworks and highlights from Carnegie Museum of Natural History's collection of Japanese ivory figures of people, animals and gods.

Next up at The Andy Warhol Museum is the first solo exhibition of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, S/HE iS HER/E, June 15-September 15. Two other exhibitions run simultaneously: Caldwell Linker: All Through the Night and Pittsburgh artist Nick Bubash: The Patron Saint of White Guys That Went Tribal and Other Works.

The Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh's Museum of Contemporary Art, presents a site-specific installation by Chiharu Shiota, beginning July 13. The artist will fill the eight rooms in the museum's new building at 516 Sampsonia Way with webs of black yarn to evoke a sense of nostalgia, simultaneously attracting viewers while confronting them with painful memories and difficult emotions.

The Pittsburgh Glass Center presents Lifeforms by Various Artists, July 5-Nov 17. The exhibition is inspired by the Rudolf and Leopold Blaschka glass biological models made in the 19th and 20th centuries for the Harvard University's Botanical Museum.

The Frick Art & Historical Center presents A Kind of Alchemy: Medieval Persian Ceramics, through June 16. This exhibition provides a beautiful and fascinating look at the diversity of ceramics made in ancient Persia (present-day Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan).

The art collection inside the Westmoreland Museum of American Art rivals the finest in the nation, featuring a world-class collection of paintings, sculpture and more.

Continue your connection to art on the stage with one-of-a-kind performances by hundreds of arts groups in the region.
