Highland Park, northeast of Downtown, is a Residential Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to one of the City’s grand public parks, for which the neighborhood is named. The sprawling 500-acre park has a restored formal Victorian fountain entrance, a large reservoir with walking path, a Robert Leathers designed playground, tennis courts, a public swimming pool and many sheltered picnic areas. The business district, Bryant Street, is known for its many fine restaurants. Highland Park is also home to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG AquariumPittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.
Annual events in Highland Park include a massive, multi-family Yard Sale and Bryant Street Festival held annually on the first Sunday in June and Reservoir of Jazz free concerts on the lawn at the entrance to the Park, every Sunday in August. All are sponsored by the Highland Park Community Council (HPCC). Started in 1945, the HPCC is the oldest neighborhood organization in the City of Pittsburgh.
