History + Heritage in Mercer County
Many of Mercer County's destinations are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Buhl Mansion Guesthouse + Spa is one of America's top-rated B+Bs, with ten exquisite guestrooms and a world-class spa. Gibson House is rumored to be a stop on the Underground Railroad. Kidd's Mill Covered Bridge is the only Smith truss covered bridge of its type in the eastern United States. And Mercer County Court House, built in 1911, is a gothic-style structure that features a marble grand staircase, murals and a stained glass dome.
The Canal Museum provides the history of the Erie Extension Canal, along with a full-size replica of an original canal boat. The Greenville Railroad Museum displays the largest switch engine ever built and the first parachute, which was invented in Greenville, Pa. The Mercer County Historical Society Museum is home to the county's historical artifacts.
Since 1923, Wendell August Forge has offered one-of-a-kind metal giftware created by master craftsman. Because of a fire, a temporary store is now located at 1605 South Center St. in Grove City, near the outlet mall.
