A great route for interstate traveling, this trail will take you from Struthers, Ohio, to New Castle, Pennsylvania. Along the way, you'll sample a variety of terrain and scenery. Running along the Mahoning River, the trail provides some beautiful views of rolling hills, woodlands, and farmland. Railroad enthusiasts will enjoy seeing the C.S.X. main line that runs parallel to the trail. Paved with asphalt, the trail is great for bicycling, in-line skating and walking.
At McConnell's Mill, the North Country Trail uses 1.4 miles of the Alpha Pass and Kildoo Trails along Slippery Rock Creek; a three-mile extention to the west in McConnell's Mill State Park is in development by the Keystone Trails Association. Day-use facilities and outstanding points of interest await the hiker. The gorge of the creek provides a scenic setting for the trail, which is marked with the NCT marker and routed wooden posts. Along the trail are a covered bridge and the restored McConnell's Grist Mill, a National Historic Landmark.
The two-mile Kildoo Nature Trail provides easy access to exciting and beautiful habitats surrounding Slippery Rock Creek. The Slippery Rock Gorge Trail is the longest trail in the park and extends from Hell's Hollow to Eckert Bridge. This six-mile, non-loop trail is designated as part of the North Country National Scenic Trail. This is a long, and in places, difficult trail. Please stay on the trail for your safety.
The Villa Maria trail is an inland (non-tidal) wetland area providing four distinct views of the wetlands. Ten sites are located along the trail. A guided brochure describes the environment of each site.
Ewing Park is a treasure of 50 acres with a community-built kids-created kingdom playground, local swimming pool, Nature Trail for hiking , bocci and tennis courts.
79 acres with a fitness trail which once was the site of local resort. These days it is home to a few national events such as Back to the Fifties music and car show as well as the local favorite Cascade of Lights during the Christmas holiday season.
