To access the South Shore Recreation Area, take the South Shore Exit off of PA-422.To access the North Shore from PA-422 W, take the North Shore Exit. There is no access to the North Shore from PA-422 headed east from I-79, so take the South Shore Exit, get onto PA-422 W, and take the North Shore Exit.

The 16,725-acre Moraine State Park is focused around Lake Arthur, an outstanding warm-water fishery with great sailing and boating. The gently rolling hills, lush forests, and sparkling waters transform a land that has endured the effects of continental glaciers and massive mineral extraction. Moraine offers biking, birding, boating, disc golf, fishing, geocaching, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, picnicking, swimming, wildlife watching, and windsurfing in warm weather and cross-country skiing, ice boating, ice fishing, ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing in winter.

Travel I-79 S for about 8 miles. Take Exit 88, turn right onto Little Creek Road, and turn left onto Mercer Street.

In 1804, Harmony was founded as the first home of the German communal Harmony Society. Harmony is also the site of George Washington's 1753 mission that sparked the French & Indian War. This National Historic Landmark District is home to quaint shops and other attractions, such as the Harmony Society Cemetery. Spend the morning exploring the town, break for lunch at noon, and return to visit the museum. Admission to the Harmony Museum includes a guided tour of three historic buildings.

Travel PA-68 E for about 17 miles (turns into W. Cunningham Street). Turn left onto McKean Street.

The Maridon Museum in Butler is the only museum in Western Pennsylvania with a specific focus on Chinese and Japanese art and culture. The collection contains over 800 objects, including jade and ivory sculptures, tapestries, landscape paintings, and artifacts from the Neolithic to the 20th century. The porcelain collection includes 18th- and 19th-century German Meissen pieces.

Heading north, turn left onto E. Walnut Street, then turn left onto Main Street (Route 8).

The Art Center provides year-round exhibits and also features The Gallery Shop, which sells works of art. The Art Center is maintained by the Associated Artists of Butler County, the oldest cultural organization in the county. Their intent is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, and to encourage and foster art.
