Celebrate PGH200!

Bicentennial BannerWe all know Pittsburgh throws a great party--think Light Up Night, Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, and First Night, just to name a few. In 2016 however, Pittsburgh is upping the ante and throwing itself a yearlong 200th birthday party!

The Pittsburgh Bicentennial is a celebration of the official 200th anniversary of the creation and incorporation of Pittsburgh as a city, which gave Pittsburghers the right to vote and govern themselves.

Mayor William Peduto kicks off the Bicentennial events on January 6th at a press conference at the City County Building. Five signature events are happening throughout the year, including a "Bicentennial Bash," on July 8 hosted by the Senator John Heinz History Center. You can find more information about upcoming events on our events calendar.

Pittsburgh never misses a chance to shine, and the theme for this year's events is centered on remembering the past and looking toward the bright future of the city we love. Over 300 organizations, companies, nonprofits, and individuals are participating in Bicentennial activities, which also demonstrates the unique and collaborative partnerships that make Pittsburgh a great and innovative city.

Mayor Peduto said,"It is an honor to celebrate the rich history and legacy of the great City of Pittsburgh with the Bicentennial anniversary. The 200th anniversary is an opportunity for the city, region and world to celebrate all that makes Pittsburgh and Pittsburghers extraordinary, bridging the past and the future."
