VisitPittsburgh Announces Important Convention Bookings
VFW and Fraternal Order of Police to Meet in Pittsburgh
With 12,000 attendees, the 2015 Annual National Convention of the VFW will generate more than $13 million in direct spending in the region. Thousands of delegates to the VFW National Convention will convene in Pittsburgh July 14-25, 2015 to elect new national officers, vote on organizational by-laws and attend VFW workshops geared to inform members of the latest trends on topics ranging from female veterans' needs to maintaining a successful VFW Post. Past distinguished speakers include: President Barack Obama, Senator John McCain, Secretary of The Department of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki, General Petraeus and many more. The last time the VFW met in Pittsburgh was in 1914.
Also in 2015, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) will hold its Centennial Convention in Pittsburgh, August 8-13. The FOP is the world's largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers. The organization actually began in Pittsburgh in 1915, and the city is home to Lodge #1. The FOP Convention attracts law enforcement officials from all over the country, including police chiefs, administrators, sheriffs, training officers, correction officers and others. With 5,570 attendees, the FOP Convention is expected to generate more than $8 million in direct spending.
