VisitPittsburgh Announces 2012 Partner Awards

PITTSBURGH – VisitPittsburgh announced the recipients of its 2012 Travel & Tourism Partner Awards. The awards, which recognize outstanding contributions to the region’s convention, travel and tourism industry, were presented at VisitPittsburgh's Annual Meeting, which took place at CONSOL Energy Center on Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

VisitPittsburgh presented its Convention & Meetings Partner Award to the Pittsburgh Penguins. David Morehouse, president and CEO of the Penguins, accepted the award on behalf of the team. This award recognizes exemplary teamwork, dedication and enthusiastic energy to ensure the success and lasting, positive impression of Pittsburgh-hosted meetings, conventions and events. And, when CONSOL Energy Center was built, Mr. Morehouse promised that the building would be an anchor for future high-profile national events, and the Penguins and the CONSOL Energy Center have delivered on that promise. The new arena hosted the early rounds of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in 2012 and the NHL Draft last summer. The first Three Rivers Classic college hockey tournament took place in December, the NCAA Frozen Four takes place in April and now the USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game is slated for September.

The Tourism Partner Award was presented to local restaurateur Yves Carreau for outstanding partnership and ongoing collaboration with VisitPittsburgh. Mr. Carreau is an innovative and visionary restaurateur who has been instrumental in changing the face of downtown’s dining scene. His restaurants have spurred a vibrant dining scene on Penn Avenue with Sonoma Grille and Seviche, and in Market Square with NOLA on the Square and Perle. Mr. Carreau works closely with VisitPittsburgh and understands the needs of conventioneers and visitors alike. He is proactive and fully supportive of the industry and other hospitality partners.

VisitPittsburgh presented Erica Kaehly, president of Guest Service Solutions, with the Tourism Partner of the Year Award. VisitPittsburgh recognized Guest Service Solutions as an outstanding partner that provides exceptional service training to the Pittsburgh hospitality community. Ms. Kaehly instills a passion in front line staff for delivering unparalleled guest service excellence through the PittsburgHost training program.

Richard Piacentini, executive director of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, was recognized as the Media Partner of the Year. Mr. Piacentini educates national and international travel journalists about Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and the new Center for Sustainable Landscapes. When VisitPittsburgh brings travel writers to Phipps, Mr. Piacentini leads every tour and is an incredible host. And, these tours always garner fabulous accolades for Phipps, and for the entire Pittsburgh region.
