34th Annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Race to be held this Weekend

Published: 07/13/2016

PITTSBURGH – This weekend Pittsburgh will again host the nation’s largest vintage sports car racing event and the only one staged on city streets. The 34th annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Race will take place on July 16 and 17 at Schenley Park.

Race weekend will feature more than 150 vintage race cars, 2,000 international show cars and the Yenko Sportscar 50th Reunion. The direct spending to the Pittsburgh region is estimated at $7.6 million.

"We are honored that the organizers of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix continue to hold this distinguished event here in our great city," said Jennifer Hawkins, executive director of SportsPITTSBURGH. "When we are asked by the national and international media to tell them the things that make Pittsburgh unique... things that can only be found in Pittsburgh... the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is certainly on that list. Pittsburgh has become a major sports destination due our ability to host a wide variety of sports events at both indoor and outdoor venues or in the case of the Grand Prix, on our streets."

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix has raised more than $4.35 million for two local charities, the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School. Last year alone, the organization raised a record number of $400,000.

"We are excited to again be holding the 34th annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in this great city," said Dan DelBianco, executive director of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. "This has become an international event, and it would not happen if not for the hard-work and planning of our thousands of volunteers. Whether you enjoy racing, have always had a fascination with fast cars, or just are looking for something unique to do in Pittsburgh, the Vintage Grand Prix hosts some of the top racers, car clubs and car shows in the world."
