VisitPittsburgh Announces 2012 Travel & Tourism Partner Awards

PITTSBURGH – VisitPittsburgh announced the recipients of its 2012 Travel & Tourism Partner Awards. The awards, which recognize outstanding contributions to the region's convention, travel and tourism industry, were presented at VisitPittsburgh's Annual Meeting, which took place during VisitPittsburgh's Annual Meeting at the Senator John Heinz History Center on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

VisitPittsburgh presented its Convention & Meetings Partner Award to the One Young World Pittsburgh Partnership and for the leadership of Katie McSorley, president, Euro RSCG Worldwide PR, Mid-Atlantic, and Steven Sokol, president, World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. From October 18-22, Pittsburgh will host the One Young World Summit 2012. The event will bring together 1,500 to 2,000 of the world's brightest, most engaged young leaders from more than 170 countries for a global youth leadership summit. Katie and Steven played instrumental roles in supporting the group effort to bring One Young World to Pittsburgh. This award recognizes exemplary teamwork, dedication and enthusiastic energy to ensure the success and lasting, positive impression of Pittsburgh-hosted meetings and conventions.

The Tourism Partner Award was presented to Rivers Casino for outstanding partnership and ongoing collaboration. VisitPittsburgh recognized River Casino's diligent efforts to enhance the richness and quality of life in the Pittsburgh region for residents and visitors alike. The Tourism Partner Award recognizes outstanding partnership, collaboration and diligent efforts to enhance the richness and quality of life of the Pittsburgh region enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike.

Highmark was named VisitPittsburgh's Marketing Partner of the Year Award.  Highmark supported "Get Healthy in Pittsburgh," a marketing initiative that helped educate visitors about the Pittsburgh region’s natural assets by encouraging visitors to get outside and explore the city and region while getting fit and healthy. The Marketing Partner Award recognizes leadership, service and dedication to industry colleagues and advancing VisitPittsburgh’s efforts to market the Pittsburgh region. 

Pittsburgh-based journalist Christine H. O'Toole was awarded a special Communications Excellence Award. It was through Chris' efforts that National Geographic Traveler designated Pittsburgh as one of Best of the world's MUST SEE destinations in 2012. VisitPittsburgh recognized her tremendous journalistic talent and exceptional ability to influence national publications to focus on Pittsburgh.
