Steelers Nation Roundup of Activities

PITTSBURGH – Rallies, tailgates and parties, oh my! Steelers Fever is heating up and the borders of Steelers Nation knows no bounds. To help spread the word about the many Super Bowl-related activities, the Greater Pittsburgh Convention & Visitors Bureau has compiled a list of what’s happening in and around Pittsburgh involving the lead-up to Super Bowl XL. GO STEELERS!

Rallies & Events

Super Bowl XL Pep Rally at Heinz Field – Friday, Jan. 27

The salute to AFC Champions as they head to Detroit is brought to you by PNC Bank and Comcast. Doors open at 3 p.m. with the program beginning at 5. Admission is free. The Povertyneck Hillbillies will perform a free concert at the event, which will feature Steelers president Art Rooney, Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O'Connor, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato and several Steelers players. Parking will be available in Stadium lots and the Carnegie Science Center lot for $5 per car. Gates A and B will be open and Heinz Field Security Guidelines WILL be enforced. Stadium concessions will be open with a limited menu. Official Steelers Merchandise will also be available in the Pittsburgh Sideline Stores.

The Great Black & Gold Glass Football

Artists at Pittsburgh Glass Center are blowing their support for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the form of a glass football. The nonprofit glass studio and gallery will create a glass football for the Steelers Pep rally on Friday, Jan. 27. Mayor Bob O’Connor is expected to present the football to the Steelers during the pep rally on Friday, Jan. 27, at Heinz Field.

Light Up Night… Make that Light Up Nights

Downtown office buildings will leave the lights on Friday, Jan. 27 and Sunday, Feb. 5, to celebrate the fact that the Pittsburgh’s Steelers are in the Super Bowl!


PNC/Steelers Pep Rally

Wed., Feb. 1, 2006 at PNC Plaza, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. WDVE Radio will be broadcasting live from the plaza with free food and fun for all.

Pittsburgh Steelers Tailgate Party

Thursday, Feb. 2 from 12 noon to 1 p.m., at SouthSide Works Town Square. Support the Steelers, enjoy food and live music. Prizes will be awarded, including $50 SouthSide Works gift card. (In the event of rain or snow, it will take place in SouthSide Works Cinema.)

Steelers Training Camp Pep Rally

Latrobe-based Saint Vincent College, summer training camp site of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the past 39 years, will hold a pep rally at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 in the campus community center. There will be music, food, decorations and prizes.

Pittsburgh Steelers Polama-luau with star100.7, Friday, Feb. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m., at SouthSide Works Town Square. Happy Hour specials, live music and giveaways. Everyone dressed in black & gold will receive a free lei!

Join fellow Steelers fans at the Hilton Pittsburgh, the preferred hotel of the Pittsburgh Steelers, for a “Black and Gold Tailgate” at the Promenade Café and Three Rivers Pub on Friday, Feb. 3, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Drop off your business card for a chance to win two pre-season 2006 Steelers tickets. The $20 buffet includes a nacho bar, crispy fried chicken, spaghetti, hamburgers, pizza and more.

Steelers Pep Rally Happy Hour at Sports Rock Café, Friday, Feb. 3. After work, head over to Sports Rock to begin your Super Bowl weekend off with a bang. Steelers’ shirts, hats and Terrible Towel giveaways. Plus register to win an autographed football.

Super Bowl Steelers Specials!

Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Garden is offering one-half off the price of admission for individuals wearing Steelers jersey or paraphernalia from Friday, Jan. 27 through Sunday, Feb. 5.

Steelers fever has taken flight at the National Aviary, with half-price admission Friday through Sunday, Feb. 3-5, to anyone wearing black and gold. Other special activities include a “Spot the Steelers Bird” game, in which visitors can go bird watching to find the many black and gold birds on exhibit at the National Aviary.

Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum and the Heinz Regional History Center is offering half-price admission to anyone who dresses in black and gold, Jan. 27 to Feb. 5.

Steelers-Related Activities

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh will celebrate Black & Gold Days with a number of activities, including creating your own black and gold works of art, including Batik ‘Terrible Towels.’ Children can make their own AFC Championship Crowns and Steelers football pennants and paint their own faces at the Steelers Family Fan Station. The Museum’s Family Pep Rally kicks off The Saturday Light Brigade Variety Show, celebrating Steelers Nation.

Pittsburgh International Airport is now home to two life-size models of two Western Pennsylvania greats – Franco Harris and George Washington. The full-size models, created by the Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center, were unveiled Friday, Jan. 27. Both models are sculpted to exact, full-size dimensions, and are on permanent display at the airport on the airside.

Coast to Coast Toast will take place at Atria’s, North Shore, Thursday, Feb. 2 at 6:35 p.m. Details to come.

Super Bowl Parties

The Super Bowl at Lucky Strike Lanes in the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills is offering a dinner and drink package that includes a buffet dinner, featuring salad, pizza and pasta, plus two free drink tickets for $30.

Bar Louie Waterfront in West Homestead is hosting a Super Bowl XL party on Sunday, Feb. 5. Open to the public and for all ages, the day consists of specials, prizes and giveaways. Half-time prize is an autographed football signed by the Steelers. The fourth quarter prize is a Steelers Black and Gold mini-fridge.

Sports Rock Café Superbowl XL Party – with over 80 TV’s, stadium sound and the best Steelers fans in the city, you’ll feel like you are at the game. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. $5 cover charge.

Hit Rock Bottom for the Big Game! Rock Bottom at the Waterfront’s “Black & Gold VIP Party” includes a guaranteed seat for the game and all-you can eat appetizer buffet.
